Dear Editor,

As a Chandler Lions Club member, I would like to make everyone aware of our Blood Drive on Saturday, May 19 from 10:00 till 3:00 at the Chandler Community Center. Many people may not be aware of the dire need for blood. I encourage everyone who can to strongly consider stopping by to donate.

As a long time donor myself, I recently attended an appreciation banquet by Stewart Blood Center at the Hollytree Country Club honoring area donors. The majority of those attending were senior citizens. If the seniors had not been there, it would have been more like a small dinner rather than a large banquet. Many thanks to those younger folks who do give.

Although he would never say so himself, Sam Pollard is one of our local heroes. He was recognized at the banquet because he has given 15 gallons of blood over a period of many, many years. Fifteen gallons, one pint at a time, shows Sam's long term commitment to this worthy cause. Thanks, Sam!

We need as many as possible involved in this effort on May 19. If you have never given, please consider doing so. It could make all the difference for someone you don't even know.
