Ben Wheeler Community Crafters May plans have been made, but as with any other crafter day, you don't have to participate in the planned project. Come and learn the technique ...do it later. Bring something to work on, an UFP, a recipe to share, and a sack lunch and drink or covered dish and drink. We are all pleasantly surprised at the progress we each are making in our crafting endeavors! We are learning a lot from each other. Our numbers grow every week. Not all of us attend each and every craft day, but most of us try. Crafters meet every Thursday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Ben Wheeler Methodist Church in downtown Ben Wheeler next to the Fire Station on FM 858. First Thursday, May 3: Sewing and Quilting, hosted by Nancy Hrobar, 903-833-5329. The demonstration will be on binding techniques. Handouts will be available. Bring a sack lunch and drink and something to work on. First Thursday, June 7 will be a workday creating a microwave potato baker using fusible applique techniques for decoration. Sewing machines and Sergers will be set up. Bring 1/2 yard of each: 100% cotton fashion fabric, 100% cotton batting and muslin. Also, bring regular quilting supplies: pins, scissors, needles, black embroidery thread and embroidery needle. Nancy will provide the fusible web and fabric for the decoration. Second Thursday, May 10: General Crafting, hosted by Terri Bevans, 903-852-7666. By popular demand, the faux tile wall hanging project will be repeated. Terri needs to order the supplies. You can still place an order for the supplies and get instructions for the project from Terri. Bring a covered dish and something to work on. Third Thursday, May 17: Scrapbooking. "Make It and Take It" Card Making Day. Ginger, 903-852-7775, will host this special day. Call for details and supplies. Bring a sack lunch and something to work on. Fourth Thursday, May 24: Knitting, Crocheting and other handwork hosted by Bobbie Hill, 903-833-2139 and Queta Tompkins, 903- 833-5897. Crafters plan to knit slippers. Bring two skeins of worsted weight, sport yarn in contrasting, coordinating colors and number 10 knitting needles. Some members will be using donated yarn to create slippers for the Rainbow Room. Videos and books for learning to knit and crochet along with expert instruction by members are always available. Last time, Karen Tutor introduced us to needle tatting. Hopefully she will dedicate a whole session to this next month. Bring a covered dish and something to work on. As always we thank the members of the Ben Wheeler Methodist Church for giving us a place to meet. You are a blessing to us. Get motivated! Fellowship with other crafters! Share ideas and good food! Finish all those unfinished projects (UFPs)! Be productive! Get out of the house! We're growing every week and having lots of fun! Open to the public. |
