CES Chatter Chandler Elementary Teachers have submitted the following news from their classes. The Kindergarten classes have completed their study of Texas and Cowboys. We had a fun Texas day! We had barrel races, dipper races, wagon races and ate from tin plates like the cowboys did. We learned about the symbols of Texas and the different areas of Texas. We are all very proud to be Texans! We are beginning our study of Creepy Crawlies this week; this is our last unit of study of the school year. We will learn all about insects and other bugs. We will learn about many different creepy crawlies, how they grow and what their jobs are in nature. First Graders have "Spring Fever"! We could hardly wait until the Spring Fling and so many other activities are planned. Students are working hard, reading and taking AR Tests. All parents should continue listening to their child read nightly and help them memorize the math facts to 10. Please remind students that school is not out yet, and it is very important to "try your hardest" on all school work in order to keep grades up! Second Grade: We are glad our reading and math benchmarks are behind us. We worked very hard those two days. Now, we are thinking about completing the school year and two really exciting activities. Field Day is Friday, May 11th. We have signed up for individual and group events. Go, Second Grade!! Do your best and win lots of ribbons. Our Field Trip is set for Monday, May 21st. We are going to Discovery Science Place in Tyler and to Winchester Park for lunch and afternoon activities. Spring was finally here and the Third Grade teachers and students were so glad! We all worked so hard in class to be ready to take the TAKS Math Test on April 17th. The third grade students performed fantastically on the TAKS Reading Test in February! We are all so proud of everyone's hard work! It takes everyone working together to be successful! For Easter the third grade classes had their egg hunts on Thursday, April 5th. There was no school on Friday, April 6th. ----------------------------- Our character word for the month of April was `Citizenship. ' Citizenship means helping the school or community, being a good neighbor and following the laws and rules. Students will be recognized for perfect attendance and no tardies throughout the year. Be sure to be at school on time every day. We now have a warning bell that rings at 7:55 and the tardy bell rings at 8:00. Make sure you are in your class at 8:00! We are collecting Box Tops again this year. Send 10 box tops in an envelope with your child's name on it. We will draw names for prizes. Happy Birthday! Student birthdays are acknowledged in the office. Come by the office and pick up your Birthday Ribbon on your special day. Our Staff birthdays for the month of April were Mrs. Tompkins, Mrs. Whittle, and Mr. Cofer. We celebrated Easter with a party on April 5th. Many of the classes walked to a classmate's home and hunted eggs. They had a great time celebrating the coming of spring. Also, April was the month for testing.
