Elections Saturday Voters will decide who will hold office in one school board and two area city council elections this Saturday, May 12, as well as a state constitutional amendment benefitting the elderly or disabled. If passed, the state amendment will authorize the legislature to provide for a reduction of the limitation on the total amount of ad valorem taxes that may be imposed for public school purposes on the residence homesteads of the elderly or disabled to reflect any reduction in the rate of those taxes for the 2006 and 2007 tax years. Polling locations for the proposed amendment are as follows: Pct. 3 - Henderson Co. Justice Center, 206 North Murchison, Athens Pct. 3B - Brownsboro Community Center, 11351 Willow St., Brownsboro Pct. 3C - Chandler Community Center, + 811 Hwy. 31 East, Chandler Pct. 4 - Cain Center, 915 S. Palestine, Athens Pct. 4A - Athens School Adm. Bldg., 104 Hawn St., Athens Pct. 4CC - Coffee City City Hall/Fire Dept., 7019 Pleasant Ridge Rd., Coffee City Pct. 4MS - Moore Station Community Center, 4720 CR 4319, Larue Pct. 4P - Poynor City Hall, 15728 Hwy. 175 E., Poynor In the Brownsboro ISD Board of Trustees election, three candidates have filed for two full term at-large seats. BISD Board President Joel Irwin has filed for re-election. Also on the ballot are Jeffrey Fulgham, Jr. and Donny Wilson. Votes for the school board election will be held in the Brownsboro Junior High Caf- eteria, Chandler Community Center, and Moore Station Community Center. In the city of Moore Station, two candidates are running for mayor. Maurice Lindsey, who is serving as interim mayor since Mayor Arthur Earl's death last October has filed for a place on the ballot and is being challenged by Charles Anderson. All four at-large seats on the City Council are up for election. Filing for re-election are incumbents Carl McKenzie, Lee Johnson and Michael Earl who are running unopposed. No one has filed for the fourth seat. The election will be held in the Moore Station Community Center. Two seats on the Coffee City city council are up for election and both are contested. Running for Place 2 are incumbent Betty Gail Davis, and Doris Harmon. Place 4 incumbent Henry Thirkill is challenged by Shirley Walker, Tony Moore, and George Street. The election will be held in the Coffee City City Hall. The cities of Brownsboro, Chandler and Murchison as well as the Murchison ISD School Board of Trustees have cancelled their elections as all incumbents are running unopposed. City of Brownsboro Mayor Ronny Harris has filed for reelection, as well as city council incumbents Mayor pro tem Randal Clayton and Len Vest. Seeking new terms in the City of Chandler election are Mayor Joye Rains, and council members Barbara Reeves, and Marshall Crawford. Also seeking re-election are City of Murchison councilmen Roger Adair and Lloyd Smith. The two seats up for election on the Murchison ISD Board of Trustees will be filled by incumbents Nelda Tillison and Mike Davis. All polls will be open 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. |
