Relay for Life to be held May 18 & 19 The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life celebration fundraiser will be held Friday and Saturday May 18 and 19 at the Brownsboro ISD track, on Hwy. 31, 7pm - 7am. Relay for Life is a fun-filled overnight activity that mobilizes communities across the country to celebrate survivorship, remember those who lost their lives to cancer, and raise money for the fight against cancer. This is an American Cancer Society's signature activity. This year's goal for Henderson County Relay is $80,000, said survivor and event organizer Trena Miers. Cancer survivors who would like to register for the Survivor's Lap can call Tony Kalawe at 903-681-6089. Luminaria are available at $5 each, and will be lit in a special ceremony to be held after dark Friday. To purchase a luminaria call Miers at 903-676-2078. Gates will open on Friday, at 3pm for set up. On-site registration will begin at 6pm. The opening ceremonies begin at 7pm, and Survivor's Lap at 7:30pm. Closing and clean-up will take place 7am Saturday. Funds raised from this event will support the American Cancer Society's programs to provide services to Henderson County cancer patients, continue education and risk reduction programs in schools and businesses, and to fund valuable cancer research. For more information contact Miers at the above number. |
