Rev. Perkins Smith

Services for the Rev. Perkins Smith, 75, Chandler, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Hilliard Funeral Home, Van, with the Rev. Jamie Eitson officiating.

Burial was in Edom Cemetery.

Rev. Smith died May 5, 2007 in Chandler. He was born May 1, 1932, in Henderson County to the late Marion W. and Sally Shiflet Smith.

He lived in Chandler most of his life and served as pastor at Mount Zion Independent Full Gospel Church in Primrose for 35 years. He served in the Air Force, and retired from Brookshire's Warehouse after 15 years service, and was awarded the Most Dedicated Worker and Outstanding Person Award.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Wayne Smith; granddaughter, Stephanie Pearl Melton, and eight siblings.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Smith, Chandler; daughters, Felicia Melton, Michelle Denise Smith and Kimberly Taylor, all of Edom; sister, Marie Brown, Athens; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Kyle Miller, Cody Melton, Michael Melton, Tristen Geddie, Tommy Taylor, David Taylor, Brian Kilpatrick and Justin Davis.
