Beginner Band brings home Division 1 Sweepstakes
Brownsboro bands announce spring concerts

The Brownsboro Beginner band, consisting of students from Brownsboro and Chandler Intermediate schools, participated for its first time in the annual Sandy Lake Fun-fest Music Festival in Carrolton, Texas on Friday, April 27.

According to band directors Bud Yenne and Mel Isdale, this is just the beginning of many years of 1st divisions for this group of students.

"The contests get more intense each year, but this is where it all begins," they said.

For a band to earn "Sweepstakes, " it must receive an overall first division from all three of the judges at the contest.

"This is a great way for these students to establish the tradition that the Brownsboro Band and the Brownsboro school district has of striving for excellence in all areas of our education!" said Brownsboro High Band Director Mr. Jeff Russell. "I am really looking forward to having these students in our high school band someday."

This year, the band's concert program included "Affirmation " by William Owens, and "Gone Troppo" by James Hultgreen.

Judges at the contest were: Joe Gunn, C.G. Canell, and John Haynie, former band director at Texas A&M.

Some of the comments from the judges were: "Good Start! Lots of big sounds!" "this is a good beginner band! I enjoyed it." "Very good! I really enjoyed today's performance! "

The Brownsboro bands will be giving their last performances of the year on Tuesday, May 15, and Thursday, May 17.

Tuesday's performance will include the Junior High Symphonic Band, directed by Mr. Steve Wise, and both High School Concert bands, di- rected by Mrs. Michelle Studkey and Mr. Jeff Russell.

"We will also be combining all bands for a preview of the 2007 Brownsboro High School Band, and the concert will be concluded with a combined performance of both High School bands giving tribute to our war veterans with a song entitled "Ichon," after a famous battle in the Korean War," Russell said.

The Bands would like to send a special invitation to all veterans, especially those of the Korean war to attend.

Thursday's concert will include the 6th Grade Beginner Band, combined Chandler and Brownsboro Intermediate Schools, directed by Mr. Bud Yenne and Mr. Mel Isdale, and the Junior High School Concert Band, directed by Mrs. Alice Slayton.
