Lake Palestine U.M.C.
by Barbara Cade

The week started off with all the women in the congregation being hoonored for Mother's Day by receiving a lovely rose pin. The church was also decorated beautifully with flowers just for them, and the choir had a great special singing, "Mansions in the Sky."

It was reported that the men of the church did a great job of building a wheelchair ramp at the home of Argyll and Diana Hicks. It took a good deal of planning to figure out how to get it attached to the house, but they managed it very well.

Ken Cade's mother, Rose, broke her leg right below the hip this past week. She was taken to the hospital where she had surgery. Even at 96 she came through the surgery just fine and should be home soon.

Ben Bowman had a scare this week and wound up in the hospital briefly, but the doctors say he should be okay.

Lynn Davis had the most harrowing week as she accidentally got into some fire as she was trying to burn some trash. We know it must be very painful for her, and all of our prayers are with her as she recuperates.

The Methodist Men's garage sale was a big success on Saturday. They had all sorts of great items spread out all over the parking lot. Bob Hitt said the final total for the event was over $2100.

We can also say thank you to Herb Botts for re-mowing the walking path at the church. It should be ready for lots of good exercising now.

We were happy to hear that Dorothy Birdwell will be receiving an award for her poetry. A group will be coming to her house to present this award to her, so the church is going to help her out by meeting today to give her a hand with her yard work and any other little things she wants done.

Kaethe Griffin had a doctor's appointment and a dentist's appointment this week. She's been a busy lady as, Sunday, she and Dorothy and Herb Botts went out for a Mother's Day meal after church and then that evening before Bible Study, she had another Mother's Day meal at her granddaughter's home.

The Bible Study which meets at the home of Joe and Lisa Allen will take a little break but will resume meeting again on June 10th.

The Cape Tranquility Bible Study which meets at the church is now studying the geography of the Bible. It's on DVD and so far has been very interesting, bringing to life the events of the Bible.
