What's Happening The Relay for Life celebration fundraiser, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, will be held Fri. & Sat., May 18 & 19, at the Brownsboro ISD track, on Hwy. 31, 7pm - 7am. Gates will open on Fri., at 3pm, for set up. On-site registration is at 6pm. The opening ceremonies begin at 7pm, and the Survivor's Lap at 7:30pm. Everyone is encouraged to come out in support of this worthwhile event and to enjoy a fun-filled evening. First Baptist Church, of Edom will sponsor the Watoto's Concert of Hope, Fri., May 25, at 7pm, at the church located at 9714 FM 314, in Edom. The Disabled American Veterans and Auxiliary #101 of Athens, Texas will be giving away merchandise to all veterans, veteran's spouses and active military personnel of Henderson County, with proper ID, such as DD-214, VA or Military Card with photo. This merchandise is brand new and consists of kitchen utensils, no appliances, pots & pans, dishes, bathroom and bedroom linens, including pillows and blankets. Location is the Henderson Co. The American Cancer Society Relay for Life will honor cancer survivors at a dinner Thurs., May 17, at the Senior Citizens Center, on Hwy. 31, in Athens, at 6:30pm. A Blood Drive sponsored by the Chandler Lions Club will be held Sat., May 19, 10am-3pm, in the Chandler Community Center, on State Hwy. 31. Dumpsters will be made available in the vacant lot next to the Southern Maid Donut shop on SH-31 in downtown Brownsboro. It will feature a wild game and BBQ dinner served under the stars with music and a silent auction. The "Soiree" is sponsored by Women's Unity Fellowship and benefits the Brenda Epperson Memorial Scholarship Fund for Future Teachers and the Friends of the Chandler Public Library as well as other local community projects.
