TVCC football combine set for Saturday, May 19

Think you have what it takes to play Cardinal football?

Trinity Valley Community College is inviting all prospective athletes to a combine on May 19. The open tryout will start at 10 a.m. at Bruce Field in Athens .

According to Cardinal Football Head Coach Brad Smiley, high school juniors and 2007 graduates are invited to attend the one-day event. The combine is targeted at potential players coming out of high school, but athletes of any age who are interesting in trying out for the team are welcome to attend.

The football team is looking for players at all positions. Those who make the team have the potential to earn scholarships.

Cardinal coaches will test players on a variety of skills, including the broad jump, 40 yard dash, bench press (225 reps) and pro shuttle (5, 10, 5).

To participate in the combine, players will need to bring football cleats, tennis shoes or track waffles (to run the 40-mile dash), workout clothes and a $15 trainer fee.

Athletes must also bring a signed waiver. The combine waiver must be signed before arrival on May 19. To obtain the waiver, log onto www.tvcc.edu/athletics/football. Also, the waiver can be obtained by calling the Cardinal fieldhouse.
