Union Hill Baptist News
by Mickie Bigbie

Union Hill celebrated with a wonderful Homecoming Sunday. The service began with the honoring of our six graduating high school seniors, and one young lady graduating from UT Tyler, all fine young folks ready to set new goals and face new challenges. We ask that you join us in prayer for all of the young people going out into a tough new world, knowing they need God's guidance and protection every step of the way.

The Wallace Family was just wonderful, as was Brother Bill's message. The ladies of the church prepared a great feast. The entire service was absolutely great ... well, nearly all the service. Some crazy lady with big dark sunglasses, a huge and rather hideous sunhat, a big black umbrella and announcing to all that she had a hole in the knee of her swimsuit, interrupted the service. There's no stopping this crazy character when she has something to say! This surprising "belle of the beach" was none other than our own beloved Ms. Diana. She has no "stopping" or even a "slowing down" button when it comes to the kids. We are certainly blessed when it comes to this little package of dynamite. Ms. Diana reminds the kids to grab their swim suits, sandals, beach towels and sunscreen as they get ready to be led on the experience of a lifetime through a life-changing water park adventure. The children will learn how Jesus used water to change lives throughout the Bible as they explore the stories and come to understand that God has a plan for their lives. They will also learn what it means to dive in and "Take the Plunge" with Jesus.

It's time for you volunteers to sign up and help touch the lives of the little ones through Vacation Bible School. Next Sunday starts the work days for VBS, as the decorations work session begins following the evening service. On June 3rd at 4:45 there will be a training sessions that you must attend if you plan to have contact with children during VBS. In case you miss it, there will be a repeat of the training session on June 5th at 7:00 p.m. You must attend one of these sessions. From May 29th through June 9th we will be transforming our church into a VBS Water Park. Come anytime and help!

Don't forget the Wheels of Mercy's participation in the "Go Ye Run." There's still an opportunity there! Likewise, don't forget the Pre-Teen Camp at Daniel Springs for the 3rd through 6th graders, coming up June 19-22. It is expected to again be an awesome camp with "Woogie and His Team." Don't miss it.

We will all be celebrating Memorial Day next Monday, as we take the time to honor the men and women who have and who are now serving in our Armed Forces, to the millions who have paid the ultimate price for the freedoms we all enjoy, and to those who left the security of homes and families to face unknown fears in lands far away, perhaps lucky enough to come home, but coming back scarred and changed forever. We, at Union Hill, along with you, give thanks for their sacrifice and pray for the families and friends who had their very hearts torn from them by their devastating loss in a small Henderson County community just days ago. Don't wait until it's too late to say a simple "thank you" to one who routinely faces perils each day for you and me. We honor you men and women who wear the stripes or carry the badge. Forgive us for not showing our gratitude, sometimes until it's too late. We don't say the words often enough ... thank you. We pray God will bless you and keep you safe.
