West Lake Baptist News "Is the God of Islam the God of the Bible?" was the title of Sunday evening's teaching message by Pastor Eric, which explored the linguistic, archeological, theological, and logical reasons why the God of Islam and The God of the Bible are not one and the same. A contrast was provided regarding the character of the God of the Bible and the God of Islam noting the distinctions and differences. A discussion of importance of the Trinity was given, as well as the historicity of the Bible as compared to other sacred works. Vacation Bible School - WLBC will hold VBS the first week of June, June 4-8, from 8:30-11:30. First Place - Congratulations to the WLBC Men's Softball Team for winning first place in their division in the City of Tyler Softball League for the spring season. The WLBC Co-Ed Team won second place in their division. WLBC will have 3 teams competing this summer -- one men's team, and 2 co-ed teams. The teams are coached by David Nichols. The summer season starts June 10th. Sr. Adult Fish Fry was held this past Friday afternoon from 3:00-9:00, with 85 in attendance. We appreciate Herb Richardson for catching the fish. Bill Dunn, JC McDaniel, Jessie Coker, and Herb Richardson served as cooks. Graduate Recognition - During the Sunday morning service, each graduate was presented a Bible by Minister of Students, Marc Nichelson. Youth Camp will be held June 18th-22nd at Pineywoods. Contact Marc Nichelson for further information. Girl's Night/Guy's Night - On Friday June 8th, the youth will have a separate overnight girl and guy night retreats. The girls will meet at the home of Don and Lisa Veatch for an overnight stay, featuring fellowship, food and guest speakers. The guys will meet at camp Jericho, for an overnight fellowship featuring guest speakers, etc. Thanks to the many adults who have agreed to be involved in this event. Singles Class - The new singles class, taught by Bruce and Cindy Fowler continues to grow and has been divided into two classes, one for men and one for women. We are excited about the continued growth and expansion. Minister of Students - We're excited to have Marc Nichelson serve as our Summer Minister to Students. Marc is a music major at Stephen F. Austin State University, where he is in the band. VBS Meeting - There will be a meeting of VBS workers Sunday night after the evening services in the Agape room. WMU will hold a meeting on May 23rd for a business wrap-up session for the summer. We appreciate Carolyn Lance for her leadership as WMU Director. |
