Memorial funds set up for fallen officers

Deputy Kevin Harris
Memorial funds have been set up for the two fallen officers, Henderson County Sheriff's Investigator Paul Steven Habelt, 63, and Deputy Tony Price Ogburn, 61, who were gunned down last Thursday afternoon, in Payne Springs.

A miscellaneous account for Deputy Kevin Harris, 40, who was shot in the leg has also been arranged.

To make a contribution contact Kim Hodges at First State Bank, Athens, 903- 675-5165.

According to Sheriff's Department Information Officer Lt. Pat McWilliams, the two deputies were the first to die in the line of duty in Henderson County in 51 years.

Their assailant, Randall Wayne Mays, 47, who shot the officers with a high powered rifle, was wounded by officers returning fire.

Mays is being guarded at a Tyler hospital by Smith County Sheriff's deputies. Mays was charged Friday with capital murder in the deaths of the two officers.
