CHANDLER CHATTER This is the last "chatter" of the year, written by teachers at the Chandler Elementary School Pre-K has been great this year! It has been so exciting watching the children learning and growing. We had our field trip on May 21st to the Discovery Science Place and had a great time. Thank you to all the parents for all your help and support this year. We encourage you to work with your child this summer with their letters, sounds and numbers. Read to your child every day. We look forward to having them in Kindergarten next year. The Kindergarten classes had an awesome year! When we think of all we have accomplished during the year it is hard to believe. We are learning to read, write and do all kinds of math. We can pattern, count, recognize and write our letters and numbers, and add and subtract. Wow! we have learned so much. When we look back at the year we think of some of our favorite events from the year. We really enjoyed Pet Day, our Thanksgiving Feast, Curl Up and Read Day, the 100th Day of School, the Easter Egg Hunt and many other activities. One of Mrs. Birdwell's class' favorite things was Splash Day. We went to Mrs. Birdwell's house to play in the water, eat burgers and hot dogs and feed the Longhorns. Kindergarten is so much fun! We had so many wonderful volunteers and parent helpers that we can't possibly name them all, but we could not have had the great year that we had without all of the help from everyone! On May 15th we presented our Spring Program and auctioned off many items with our handprints and fingerprints included in the decorations. The parents and grandparents were proud of a great performance and many went home with mementoes from the kindergarten classes. We are looking forward to our summer vacation, but we will miss all of our friends and classmates as well as our teachers. Kindergarten has been a great time of growth and accomplishment for all of us! First Graders entered school in August with very little reading and writing skills. Take time to compare how they are reading and writing now! It is always so amazing to see the progress that has been made in First Grade. Stuents are reading as many books as possible and taking AR tests trying to reach their end of the year AR goals. With the end of the year upon us, we find ourselves busier than ever. From Mother's Day Tea Parties to Field Day and Awards Day program, we are finishing the year with a BANG! Thank you for giving us your children. They will always have a special place in their teacher's heart. Have a great summer! Second Grade had a great year. We feel the children have learned and developed and are ready for third grade. We encourage the children to continue to read over the summer. We had our field trip on May 21st to the Discovery Science Place and then to the park. The students had a great time. Thank you to all the parents this year for your support and hard work. Your participation in your child's education goes a long way. We encourage you to continue to be involved with your child next year, too. Third Grade - Wow! We have made it to the end of another very successful school year! The third graders are through with all of their TAKS Texting. We had a very busy month. This has been a fantastic school year and the third grade teachers want to give a great big "THANK YOU" to all of the parents and family members that have helped with different fundraisers and events throughout the school year. All of the help has been greatly appreciated by every- one here at Chandler Elementary. We hope that everyone has a great and safe summer vacation. We'll be looking forward to the 2007-2008 school year! ------------------------ Our character word for the month of May is Citizenship. Citizenship means helping the school or community, being a good neighbor and following the laws and rules. Students are recognized for perfect attendance and no tardies throughout the year. Be sure to be at school on time every day. Make sure you are in your class at 8:00. Happy Birthday - Student birthdays are acknowledged in the office. Come by the office and pick up your Birthday Ribbon on your special day. Our Staff birthdays for the month of May are Mrs. Wade, Mrs. Duke and Mrs. Lyles. On April 27th we had our Spring Festival. Everyone had a great time. Thank you to all who came and participated. We raised over $5,000. That money will be used to buy items for the classrooms and for the students to use for Example Math Manipulative and Target Boards. On May 11th we had Field Day. The students had a lot of fun showing their athletic abilities. On May 15th, Kindergarten presented their program. It was great! We want to thank Mrs. Hughes and the teachers for all their hard work. On May 14th we had our Title I Parental Involvement Meeting. We discussed ways to improve parental involvement and review the results from the surveys that were completed. The Awards program was held May 24th, and May 25th is the last day of school with early release. |
