Chandler F.U.M.C. Under the old agreement the priests stood before the altar day after day offering sacrifices that could never take away our sins. But Christ gave himself to God for our sins as one sacrifice for all time. Hebrews 10:11-12. The Disciple classes I and II, under the guidance of Reverend Linda Pinson and Ken Reid, held "The Covenant Service" as their last session in the Bible studies. Throughout the studies emphasis has been placed on the covenant God made with Israel and the new covenant made through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Covenant Service includes our personal covenant with God. It is an inspirational moment, with a small group gathered around the altar repeating the following covenant and partaking of communion. Have you renewed your covenant with God recently? "I give myself completely to you, God. Assign me to my place in your creation. Let me suffer for you. Give me the work you would have me do. Give me many tasks, or have me step aside while you call others. Put me forward or humble me. Give me riches or let me live in poverty. I freely give all that I am and all that I have to you and now, holy God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit you are mine and I am yours. So be it. May this covenant made on earth continue for all eternity. Amen." These studies have been a rewarding experience, and I am looking forward to Disciple III this fall. Come join us in Disciple I or II. As Reverend Pinson is often quoted "Being in the Word is a wonderful joyous way of spending one's time." Blueprint for the House of Prayer workshop will be held from 9am to 3:30pm at the Lanes Chapel United Methodist Church of Tyler. You may pay the $20 pre-registration at our church office, or $25 at the door. The program is conducted by Terry Teykl as part of the "Teach Us to Pray Series. " Last Sunday, in recognition of Memorial Day, the Angelus Ringers played under the direction of Lou Griffin, our National Hymn and "O Beautiful for Spacious Skies." The Bell Choir now has a full range of bells and they are very impressive. During Memorial Day we truly need to renew our patriotism and acknowledge those who have served to protect this country. "The patriot who feels himself in the service of God, who acknowledges Him in all His ways, has the promise of almighty direction, and will find His Word in his greatest darkness, a lantern to his feet, a lamp unto his paths; He will therefore seek to establish for his country in the eyes of the world, such a character as shall make her not unworthy of the name of a Christian Nation." -By Francis Scott Key What's Happening: Don and Martha Copeland's 50th anniversary will be celebrated Saturday, June 2 from 2:00-4:00 at their home located at 14102 FM 2010.
