St. Boniface Catholic Church
by Sue Beams

Members of St. Boniface commemorated the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, the feast of Pentecost. The literal translation of the word "Pentecost" means the 50th day after Easter. Why celebrate? On this day, the Church became the visible presence of Jesus Christ in the world. The one Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church was made known through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, with the means necessary for Salvation. In the first reading, we heard of the glorious arrival of the Holy Spirit. In obedience, the Apostles gathered and were blessed with the ability to speak in other languages. In the second reading we are warned not to be of the flesh, or of the world, but to worship in spirit and in truth.

The Holy Gospel demands that if we love Jesus, we will keep His commandments. In his homily, Fr. Jesse urged us to receive the Gifts of Pentecost in order to benefit the entire Church. The Holy Spirit sanctifies us through daily personal contact with the Body of Christ. Reflect upon the purpose of the Holy Spirit (Advocate). Have you received what the Holy Spirit has allowed for you according to the purpose of God? We are called to set our mind on the things of the Spirit. No man can serve two masters.

We welcomed our holiday visitors and enjoyed delicious refreshments following Mass.

Fr. Jesse will accompany Bishop Corrada on a brief trip to Puerto Rico. Bishop Corrada's mother is extremely ill. We ask for your prayers for the Bishop's mother and the safe journey and return of Fr. Jesse.

On Wednesday, June 6 at 7pm, there will be a presentation on the function and purpose of the Bishop's Evangelization program in the community center. Please plan on attending this important program.

The Church picnic will be June 9th at the home of Kay Chavez. The fun begins at 10am, and will continue until 3pm. The church will provide the meat; Kay will provide desserts; and members planning on attending are asked to bring a side dish to share, lawn chairs, and drinks. This is a perfect opportunity to get to know Fr. Jesse in a less formal setting, as well as one another. If you have any questions or would like to help Kay in preparing for the picnic, give her a call. The sign-up sheet is in the community center. Hope to see everyone there!

Following the weekend Masses on June 9th and 10th, there will be a showing of the DVD Eucharistic Miracles in the community center. Please plan on attending this showing.

St. Boniface is looking for someone to lead the Youth of our parish. Our director, Sigi Bundy has resigned. We thank her for all the effort she put forth while she was the Youth Director. Please contact Fr. Jesse if you are interested in this very important ministry.

On Memorial Day it is a good opportunity to reflect on the immense sacrifice of the American service members and veterans. We ask for your continued prayers, appreciation and support of the brave men and women who have risked their lives to defend us. You are encouraged to proudly display our flags to show our pride and patriotism. May God bless and keep in His loving care, ALL those who defend our great nation.

Congratulations and best wishes to all who are celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. May God comfort and console those who are sick and suffering. Remember in prayer the faithful departed; may they rest in peace with the Lord. And also we ask for blessings on the 2007 Graduates. May you keep Christ at the center of your lives as you head toward your future!

Have a wonderful and SAFE week.
