Lake Palestine U.M.C. Because of the holiday weekend, it seemed like a lot of folks were on the road. Rev. Richard and Rebecca Prather drove to Houston to attend the Annual Conference of the Methodist Church. Since they are originally from that area, this also gives them a chance to meet and greet relatives and old friends. I also heard they have a nice new hybrid SUV for the trip. Very smart thinking. Also attending the same conference as a Lay Delegate was Bob Fisher with his wife Carla. Bob did a great job of preaching and leading at both services on Sunday morning. Diane Kelder also did a won- derful job at the piano. Since it was Memorial Day Sunday, Rich Francko and the Methodist Men had a special service planned at 11:00 a.m. Thank you for a wonderful time for the congregation. After the 8:30 a.m. service, Bernard and Linda Massey drove to Athens where they met Linda's sister from the Dallas-Ft. Worth area for lunch. Afterwards, they went to a local art gallery. Crystal reported that her nieces have gone to Arizona for the summer. She asked prayers for safe travel for them. Bob Hitt reported that he is finally done with his mother's estate sale and maybe life can get back to normal again. Pauline Johnson is doing well after her surgery. She is now home. Rose Cade is gradually improving and Jerry Bartos is also doing well. Dorothy Botts and Joanne Bowman both had surgery this past Wednesday. Our prayers are with them as they begin the recovery process. John and Debbie Morris had a pleasant time this week as they entertained John's sisters from Colorado. They hadn't seen each other in several years. The usual Bible studies didn't meet this week because of the holiday, but will begin again next week. The United Methodist Women will not be meeting during the summer months, but the Methodist Men will have their regular breakfast on Saturday, the 9th. Also, be sure and mark your calendars for the new fellowship meal time. It will now be on June 13th, Wednesday, or the second Wednesday of every month in the evening. And, as usual, the church is open for both the adults and youth every Friday night. |
