Community Crafters preparing for Christmas

It's not too early to start planning for handmade Christmas Gifts. The Community Crafters have a head start on projects. Last Thursday, we were introduced to knit and crochet slippers, always a winner for Christmas. Next Thursday will be demonstrations on Angels made from glass lampshades, button decorated trees, quilted potato bakers, and more. Join the fun, learn the technique and complete it later.

It's not just about crafting, but fellowshipping and honoring each other. We celebrate birthdays! Bring something to work on, a UFP, a recipe to share, and a sack lunch and drink or covered dish and drink. We are all pleasantly surprised at the progress we each are making in our crafting endeavors! We are learning a lot from each other. Our numbers grow every week. Not all of us attend each and every craft day, but most of us try. Crafters meet every Thursday from 10am- 3pm at the Ben Wheeler Methodist Church in downtown Ben Wheeler, next to the Fire Station on FM 858. Open to the public.

Fourth Thursday, May 31st, General Crafting featuring Christmas crafting ideas and demonstrations given by various members. For more information contact Nancy at 903- 833-5329.

First Thursday, June 7 will be a work day creating a microwave potato baker using fusible applique techniques for decoration. Sewing machines and Sergers will be set up. Bring 1/2 yard of each: 100% cotton fashion fabric, 100% cotton batting, and 100% cotton muslin. Also, bring regular quilting supplies: pins, scissors, needles, black embroidery thread and embroidery needle. Nancy will provide the fusible web and fabric for the decoration. If you don't have these supplies, you can purchase them from Nancy at the meeting. For more information, call 903-833-5329.

Second Thursday, June 14, Scrap Booking: This will be a "Make It and Take It" scrap book page day. Ginger Featherston will provide materials and expertise for this session. Crafters are asked to bring adhesive and scissors. For more information, call Ginger at 903-852-7775. This would be a good day to bring grandchildren or children over the age of 7. They will enjoy gluing and sticking and cutting and creating -- so will you. The cards we made last month were a roaring success!

Third Thursday, June 21, Kniting and Crocheting. We will continue to experiment with the slipper patterns and decide on future needlework projects. We have almost used up our donated yarns and continue to produce lovely hats, afghans, scarves, slippers, dishcloths, bath mitts, you name it! Amazing what you can do when you have each other for encouragement, teaching and motivation!

As always we thank the members of the Ben Wheeler Methodist Church for giving us a place to meet. You are a blessing to us.
