Baty 50th Anniversary

Lee Roy & Bettye Baty
Lee Roy and Bettye Baty will celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a reception hosted by their children from 1-4 p.m. on June 9, 2007, in the Bethany Suite at Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler.

Lee Roy Baty of Palestine, Texas married Bettye Todd in Longview, Texas, on June 1, 1957. They met while attending Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. The Batys are retired teachers, with Lee Roy serving all but five years of his career as an elementary teacher and principal in Houston, Dickinson, and Deer Park, Texas, and Bettye teaching English in junior high.

Upon retirement in 1991, the Batys moved to Chandler, where they lived for over eight years. While in the Chandler area, the Batys attended First Baptist Church. Mr. Baty was active in the Pow Wow Association and Park Board and was well known as an avid hunter and fisherman. Mrs. Baty served as President of the Hobby Club and was a member of the Chandler Public Library Board.

The Batys now reside in Tyler and attend Green Acres Baptist Church where Lee Roy serves as a deacon and member of the Disaster Relief Team. Bettye is a member of the choir. They have been members of Volunteer Christian Builders for the past eleven years. Lee Roy organized Korean War Veterans Chapter 286 in Tyler, served as its first Commander, and was honored to have the members name the chapter after him. Bettye is a member of Tyler Music Coterie, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and past president of East Texas Embroiderers' Guild.

The Batys have three children: David and wife Patti of Richardson, Donna Veenendaal and husband Alan of Austin, and Gary of Euless. The Batys also have five grandchildren.
