Lake Palestine U.M.C. 1 Despite the very rainy weather, even at 6:30 in the morning, I hear that several of the men made it out for the clean-up day last Saturday. Even though they couldn't accomplish everything they wanted to, they still managed to get some things done. The Ken Cade family is happy that Rose Cade finally got to come home from the hospital. There are a few technical adjustments to make in having her home, but she is extremely happy to be back among familiar surroundings. Our prayers are with Vera Rhodes and Sandi Guerin. Both have fathers who are ill. Sandi went to Ft. Worth on Monday to be there for her father as he had his surgery. Vera and her sisters have had to see about her father who is close to needing surgery, but not quite there yet. Since last Sunday was Father's Day, a special instrumental ensemble group played a tribute to all the men in the church. Those who provided this lovely music were R.J. Newsom on the trumpet, Alex Martin on the trombone, Jan Decker on the flute and Carla Fisher on the piano. We're also very happy to announce Pastor Richard finally has some much needed help in the office. They are Sue Hayward and Lynn Davis. Their schedule at the office will be announced later. Right now, Lynn is very busy compiling the church cookbook. Anyone who has recipes should get them to her. Richard and Rebecca Prather hosted the Grace Awakening Bible study at their home on Sunday evening. Marguerite Barker had surgery but is home now and doing better. Thetis Jackson is also improving in her rehab facility. Frank Guerin is interested in starting a group devoted to the study of personal spirituality. He had a seminar on this last spring, and it would follow along with some of the same basic ideas. Anyone interested in this group should contact him or the church. We hear that Debbie Miller has had some problems with her eyes lately. We will be praying for her. Bernard and Linda Massey have definitely been enjoying their summer. They are currently visiting their son in South Carolina. Roy and Martha Different had made several trips to Houston to see about Roy's eyes. Benni Brown has been having problems with her back, but she was feeling better and made some great rolls to bring to the fellowship meal last week. Every Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. there will be a new service for those people who just can't seem to make it on Sunday. The choir practice, which is also on Wednesday, will be moved back on the schedule a bit. For more specific information on that, please contact Carla Fisher. The big news in upcoming events is Vacation Bible School which begins next Monday and goes through Friday. It will begin at 6 p.m. on Monday and be over by 8:30 p.m. All children in the community are invited to participate. |
