Brownsboro Band advances to Area Competition

Congratulations to the `06 - `07 Brownsboro High School Band for advancing to Area Competition in the ATSSB Outstanding Performance Series (OPS).

The Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) provides state competition for 1A-3A high school bands based on their spring performances at UIL Concert and Sight Reading contest held in the spring of each year. Each 1A-3A school may enter a recording made at any UIL or state approved contest of any of its three tunes that are required to be performed for state competition.

The award winning Sweepstakes Brownsboro High School Band entered all three tunes played at this year's UIL competition held in Troup. The first level of the competition is held at the region level where all bands from Region 21 have the opportunity to enter their contest tunes. The bands' recordings were judged by Frank Nelson, Jason Howard, Janet Wilson, and Brian Owen in Brady, Texas. Brownsboro placed 1st in both the March and Concert areas with its recordings of "The Slavic Woman's Farewell" by Visilij Ivanovith Agapkin and "Tempered Steel" by Charles Rochester Young. It also placed 3rd with its recording of "Salvation is Created" by Tschesnokoff, Brownsboro was the only band in our region to place all three tunes in the area competition.

All three recordings will advance to the Area competition, to be judged June 21st at Iowa Park High School, to see if they will qualify for the state level competition to be held in San Antonio in July. The Brownsboro High School Band is directed by Jeff Russell, and is assisted by Steve Wise, Michelle Stuckey and Alice Slayton.
