Chandler F.U.M.C.
by Linda G. Keeling

Dr. Munch's sermon this Sunday: "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." Psalm 33

"I will lie down in peace and sleep, for though I am alone, O Lord, you will keep me safe." Psalms 4:8

We live in a society where laws are written to protect and ensure our safety. The Government has enacted all types of safety measures for our protection, consumer protection laws, environmental protection regulations, food and drug regulation, and even standards for national security only to name a few. Yet we only have to read the newspaper, or watch television to realize how ineffective these rules and regulations are. For real safety comes in our belief in God because he was the one to promise us safety in all things. For He said, "Obey my laws if you want to live safely in the land." -Leviticus 25:18.

Roger Babson wrote "Safety of our sons and daughters as they go out on the streets this very night is due to the influence of the preachers rather than the policemen and lawmakers. The safety of our nation, including all groups, depends on Christian education." Even in great crisis, we are set free from fear and panic and are enabled to act with sanity and wisdom. For those whose "memory is full of the words of Christ, there is strength in all life's emergencies."

The Sunday potluck luncheon for our new Pastor and family was well attended. This was the first time where the serving portions were getting slim. Of course ending up at the end of the line might have had something to do with it. We Methodists do love to socialize around the table. I think Pastor Russ and Carol and Jessy were made to feel welcomed. Thank you to all the hostesses, Mary Dykes, Martha Copeland, Betty Wallace, Nelda Horton, Pat Martin, Rosie Bussman, Sue Starnes, and Dorothy McHam for all your hard work.

The high school UM ARMY has left for a week in Ore City. They will be helping a local church there with home improvements for those in need, and sharing Christian fellowship with those in the community. Twenty-three youth and adults will represent the Chandler FUMC. Next Sunday they will share their success and growth in this mission field. Plan to attend and welcome them back home.

Next Wednesday is July the 4th, so the decision was made to have our monthly fellowship potluck after Sunday services.

Terrific Tuesdays is going great. Last week the children fished at the Copeland's pond and caught over 15 fish. They were served at the Welcome luncheon, but unfortunately did not feed the crowd. This week they are going to a private screening of Ratatouille at Time Square and then visit Chuck E Cheese. Remember, these activities are open to all children K through the 5th grade, so invite your friends. Contact Ken Reid at the church office for information aout future activities.

Happy Anniversary to: Richard and Joanne Rabe. "How can He but, in giving Him, lavish on us all things." Romans 8:32

"The nearer I approach the end, the plainer I hear around me the immortal symphonies of the worlds which invite me. The earth gives me its generous sap, but heaven lights me with its unknown worlds." - Victor Hugo

Thought for the Week: "A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said wouldn't be a great moral teacher. He's either a lunatic; on a level with a man who says he's a poached egg; or else he the devil of hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. But don't let us come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He hasn't left that open to us. He didn't intend to" C.S. Lewis Mere Christianity
