Writers' Corner NISSAN SPECIAL EDITION Bought the car from Brian Bragg. Thought all my kin were gonna' gag. Little bitty and looked a little jive, But it had air and was fun to drive. My friends said it was too small for me, But I saw things they couldn't see. Drove it up to many a probationer's house; That old engine was quiet as a mouse. Got another job, prospecting into real estate. The old Nissan started, I was never late. Folks at the office said I needed a bigger car. "Get you a Cadillac, it'll make you a star." I went out and bought one, just paid cash. Knew I'd sell enough to get me a stash. Found out that Cadillacs don' sell land. I'll sell that sucker as fast as I can. I'm back driving the old Special Ed. Everyone's expecting me to put it to bed. 260,000 miles and bearskin seat cover; It'll be a while before I get another. by Dwayne Garner MILESTONES All through life we're making memories and counting milestones along the way, some with joys and laughter, some stained with tears of sadness. God didn't promise us roses, we have to find our own, and the petals of love and kindness we strew along our path touch more hearts in need than we can ever know. Someday, we'll look back on the years and the milestones we have passed on our life's journey and see sometimes it was the little things, little half forgotten courtesies that meant the most of all, and the memories made and shared with friends and family have become the crown jewels atop the milestones along the road we have taken. by Dorothy Miller Birdwell TEXAS MAGIC The skies that make me slumber, The horse's hooves like thunder, The night so clear, My home so dear, This spell that I am under.
