St. Boniface Catholic Church
by Sue Beams

It is good to be back home following my too-short vacation. Thanks to those who mentioned "missing" an article last week. Your kind words are appreciated.

On the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time, members of St. Boniface were reminded of the life-long commitment that responding to the call of Jesus requires.

We must put Him and His mission above all else; family, friends, work. In the gospel account, Jesus has his eyes set on Jerusalem in order to fulfill old testament prophecy. Jesus spoke in symbolism of foxes and birds when in reality, he was telling his disciples that he, the Lord Jesus does not use trickery to obtain followers.

Jesus' message is of Eternal Life and is not always meant to be taken literally. To "plow" for the Kingdom requires sacrifice. We are to continue to move forward in our discipleship. We must continually ask ourselves, "Am I spiritually grounded in my calling?" By the Grace of God we will be!

The altar servers looked exceptionally angelic Sunday. The four young ladies respectfully serving Mass were a joy. A special thanks to Raul and Tracy DeLaGarza for taking on the position of Altar Service Coordinators.

On July 6th there will be a Fish Fry at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Tyler, from 6-8 p.m. Cost is $8 per adult; $4 children (4-10) and kids under 4 eat free!

July 11th there will be a training session for Eucharistic Ministers at 7 p.m. in the community hall. All new and current ministers are urged to attend. There will be a formal commissioning by the Bishop at a future date.

The abundant rain is causing delays in the completion of the "grotto" project. While progress is being made, a few days of dry weather would sure help the cause! Thanks to Pat and Stephanie Adams for their patience, dedication and hard work on this project.

Congratulations and best wishes to all those who are celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. We pray for the sick and suffering to find relief. Also, we remember the faithful departed. Our sincerest sympathies are extended to Evelyn Schroder in the recent loss of her mother.

Please continue to lift up in prayer those brave men and women in uniform, serving for our freedom. This July 4th we are reverently asking God's kindness and mercy on our great nation as we celebrate our independence.

Have a blessed week!
