CBACC duffers raise scholarship money

Echo Creek - Graduating 2008 BHS seniors will be on the receiving end of college assistance due to the efforts of the Chandler-Brownsboro Area Chamber of Commerce and area golfers.

"The CBACC golf tournament's only purpose is to raise scholarship dollars for Brownsboro High School graduates and the 2007 tournament raised more money than ever before," said this year's tournament chairman, Dana Becton.

Out-waiting the rainy season took only one postponement, as the original date of June 16th was a `wash-out' or should we say `gully-washer' with the tournament actually taking place on Friday, June 29, at Echo Creek Country Club.

Eight teams vying for the top spot along with the 20 corporate hole sponsors will enable more of BHS's seniors to receive scholarships.

First place, at eleven under, went to Dr. Dan Scott's team (Dan Scott, Seth Scott, Sam Scott, and Shane Parmer). The top team split $200 cash for their efforts.

The Bee-Line Promotions - Team II (Mokie Manis, Tyson Miller, and Drew Pirtle) took second place with team members donating back their `winnings ' of $100 to the scholarship fund. "Way to go, Bee- Line Team," said one of the other players.

Third place was taken by the Bee-Line Promotions - Team I (Trey Volentine, Tony Volentine, and Jim West). Embroidered golf towels and Callaway golf balls from Bee- Line Promotions along with commemorative visors from 1st State Bank - Brownsboro were their prizes.

A special thanks also goes to the other teams making this year's event a success: 1st State Bank - Brownsboro (Greg Wyatt, Josh Fulgham, Todd Epperson, and Cliff Smith), Lilly Enterprises - Kevin Lilly's McDonald's (Pat Silba, Ed Silba, Terry Brunner, and Garland Talent), Smiley Insurance & Financial Services (Jeff Smiley, Jeffrey Smiley, Harry Clifford, and Alan Fulcher), San Pedro's Restaurant (Pete Ramos, Thomas Grayson, Sr., Thomas Grayson, Jr., and Larry Hargett) and Billy Shannon's Team (Billy, Jonathon Ritch, Jeff Hammond, and Charles Hill from ONCOR).

Taking home a hybrid club, donated by Ronny Harris Golf Shop of Brownsboro, was Tony Volentine for the longest drive with his thirteen year-old grandson, Trey Volentine, taking home the $50 cash prize for closest to the pin. Both Tony and Trey played for Bee-Line Promotions - Team I.

Lunch sponsors were Y's Hometown Foods (Brownsboro), San Pedro's Restaurant (Chandler), and The Shed CafØ (Edom).

John Becton, of Bee-Line Promotions, manned the grill for this year's hamburger buffet and the Shed CafØ of Edom provided their wonderful pies for dessert.

Prizes included: golf towels, Callaway golf balls, Ping golf shirts, soft drink coolers, and golfer first aid kits sponsored by Bee-Line Promotions (Murchison); golf tees, Wilson golf balls, a sport bag, a pair of golf gift cups sponsored by Smiley Insurance & Financial Services; a hybrid club sponsored by Ronny Harris Golf Shop (Brownsboro) for the longest drive; and caps from Brinson Ford (Athens).

Hole sponsors for this year's tournament included: ASAP Truck Service (Brownsboro), Athens Cleaners and Laundry, Atmos Energy, Brownsboro Feed & Seed, Chandler Feed & Seed, Citizen's National Bank (Chandler), Citizen's State Bank (Chandler), Copeland's Chandler Drug, Crestview Properties Ltd. (Chandler), Crist Development (Chandler), First State Bank-Brownsboro, J&S Rentals & Property Management (Chandler), Jerrod Smith representing TreeTown USA, Lilly Enterprises (Kevin Lilly's McDonald's - Athens), Michael Nobles @ Brinson Ford (Athens), Oskie Company (Brownsboro), Palady Air (Brownsboro), San Pedro's Restaurant (Chandler), Splawn Sales (Murchison), 31 West Auto (Chandler).

"We appreciate each and every individual and business who played a part in making our scholarship tournament a success," said Becton.
