Union Hill Baptist News What a day we had at Union Hill Sunday, didn't we! Many thanks to all of you who joined in the celebration of Brother Bill's 70th birthday. The church was filled with members, former members, family and friends. To those who presented the special music, it was tremendous. As Brother Bill spoke from the pulpit, it was not only a wonderful service but it was a very special one. As he reminisced, we were given a personal and inspiring look into his life. As he spoke of his up-bringing, his family, his twenty-three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and the lessons he learned throughout his seventy years, we laughed and we cried. Most of all, we marveled at the making of this remarkable man. It was a good day and a good celebration for a good man. We thank God for him. This week, on Tuesday night, we participated in the Unity Association Meeting at the Opelika Baptist Church. If you are reading this on Wednesday, tonight is the Quarterly Business Meeting at 7:00 p.m. at Union Hill. Friday the 13th, is Kid's Day Out from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Science Place in Tyler. Coming up next week, we will have our monthly Family Fellowship, beginning at 7:00 p.m., followed by the Deacons ' Meeting. If you do not come to Family Fellowship, you are missing a real treat. Bring your favorite dish and eat and fellowship with us. This month we are lucky to have a fifth Sunday which means we have the opportunity to take part in the Community Church Service. This is one of your very best chances to get together and worship with your friends from other area churches. I'll have more information for you next week, but start making your plans now to join us. For you bikers or want to be bikers, remember that the Wheels of Mercy have their regular monthly meeting on the second Saturday of each month. They meet at 3:30 p.m. at the Community Center in Edom. As they tell you on their website, all riders are welcome regardless of make of motorcycle, race or denomination. If you have a heart for the ministry, they may be just the place for you. Members of the Wheels of Mercy and the Daughters of Destiny are real go-getters, always busy with some project, working for the Lord. Sitting behind Ray Moore, the Road Captain for the Wheels of Mercy, Sunday morning in church I was reminded of a story that I have been intending to tell you. More often than not, when you see a big guy on a big loud motorcycle, you think of a tough, no nonsense dude and many of them are sporting a long pigtail blowing in the wind from under their helmet. Well, the big Road Captain had just such a pigtail. Being such a "tough" character, he lovingly cut off the thirteen inches of red pigtail and gave it to Locks of Love! Though not all the members have the capability of donating long locks of hair to this fine organization, they all have the same character. They are always thinking of others, always providing a shining example of true Christian love for their fellowman, always spreading God's word wherever they go. It's a great group. If you're interested, you might try to make that next meeting! Like those bikers, let's watch out for each other, be aware of other's needs, pray for each other. See you on the hill. |
