Anthony Franklin Haynes

Funeral services for Anthony Franklin Haynes, 74, of Murchison were held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Chandler, Texas. Burial followed in the Oaklawn Memorial Park of Athens. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Cooper Funeral Home of Athens. He passed away Friday, July 6, 2007.

Mr. Haynes was born May 16, 1933 in Larue, Texas to his parents, Anthony Samuel and Lilly Alexander Haynes. He attended school in Poynor and was the class Salutatorian of 1950. He was employed with Texas Power and Light for 40 years as a lab technician and retired in 1992. He married Gayle Hudson on February 19, 1956 and they had resided in Red River County until 1964 before returning to Henderson County.

Mr. Haynes enjoyed gardening, farming, raising cattle and horses and many types of sports. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local unit number 1128, a member of the Methodist Men, International Brangus Breeders Association and a member of the board of directors of the Murchison Independent School District for several years. He loved his family and was an active supporter of Little League and numerous other community functions which benefited the youth of the community. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thomas Haynes; sisters, Mildred Sanders, Frances Hall, Lee Chapman, Jo Taylor and Hazel Walker.

Mr. Haynes is survived by his wife, Gayle Haynes of Murchison; sons and daughter-in-law, Stan and Conni Haynes of Murchison, James "Bubba" Haynes of Beaumont; daughters and sons-in-law, Nicki and William Biggs of Corsicana, Mary and Sonny Booth of Chandler, Carol and John Robertson of Murchison, Becky and Chris Callaway of Gilmer; brother and sister-in-law, James and Gwyn Haynes of Athens; sisters, Alice Baggerman of Greisham, Oregon, Julian Hatter of Jackson, Tennessee, Carrie Osborne of Jacksonville; brother-in-law, Square Walker of Fincastle; eleven grandchildren; one greatgrandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers included Ross Washington, Neil Rozell, Robert Baron, Dan Mack Saxon, Robert Callaway, Kelly Walker, Don Copeland and Bill McHam.
