LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Why do we need a County Attorney when we have to hire other attorneys to do what he is supposed to do? When he ran for this office to start with, he said he would do Child Protective Services and that he would be a full-time county attorney. His first power stroke was that he came into Commissioners Court and said he would not do CPA. The DA could do it. Two years later, he got County Judge Holstein to go along with him in trying to take over the running of the courthouse and all the offices. He seemed to think his power had no end, so in 2006 he takes on the hospital.

Now, Mr. Owen is so smart that he can find errors in things that were drawn up by an excellent attorney (who is no longer with us now) but everything that coes up, the county has to pay attorneys from Tyler to handle it. Owen has a $100,000 a year salary plus the perks that go with it. So far this year the county has paid $25,356.99 (up to April 27, 2007) in legal fees to outside attorneys on this mess with the hospital.

I find this to be very odd since there have never been problems with the county and the hospital until Owen and Holstein came to office. And the way I see this, they should pay out of their own pockets for their attorneys and for what they have done to the hospital.

I was brought up "my word is my bond."
