Think Globally - Act Locally! SHARE! is seeking volunteers - with or without children - to share their hearts and homes with teen ambassadors from abroad for the upcoming 2007-2008 school year. The students are participating in the SHARE! High School Exchange Program to learn firsthand about America. These young ambassadors will return to their home countries with a newly acquired understanding of the American point of view and way of life. The students, who arrive in August, are between the ages of 15 and 18, have been screened for academic preparedness and English proficiency, and would attend a local high school in your area. They are covered by health insurance and have spending money for their own personal expenses. They are expecting to become active members of their host family and community, helping with house- hold chores and sharing the history and culture of their native country with their family, school and community. Host families are asked to provide a bed, meals, a warm family environment, and a willingness to share the American way of life with these young ambassadors. Host families are also able to take a $50 per month tax deduction for each month they host these young teen ambassadors. To learn more about how you can think globally and act locally, contact Yvette Coffman, SHARE! Southwest Director at 800-941- 3738 or info@sharesouthwest.org. Interested persons are also invited to visit our website at www.sharesouthwest.org. |
