Lake Palestine U.M.C. The summer has been relatively quiet, but this week promises to be a very busy one for a lot of church members. For one thing, the youth are hosting two very big events. On Friday, July 20th, at 6:30 PM they will have a free movie night. Anyone and everyone in the community is invited to this. The showing will be Night at the Museum. For those who want to eat something, the youth will be selling refreshments. Then, on the following Sunday, the youth will host an open house at the Youth Building. This will start at 5:00 PM. Debbie Morris spent the weekend in Las Vegas. She went out there to attend a friend's wedding. Rich and Donna Franko have left town for a few weeks. They have initially gone to Oklahoma for awhile, but will go on to Wisconsin for a few weeks. We are happy to report that Lillian Stegall is back in town. She has been in Spain, Italy and Greece. She said she had a very good time. Bernard and Linda Massey came back from the East Coast about a week ago and now they are back on the road going to Ecuador. They met their son, Den, who came in from Scotland, in Dallas on Monday and then caught another plane for South America. Frank Guerin has started another Bible study group. It will meet on Tuesday nights at 7:00 PM for now. The topic is "The Deeper Journey." The Fellowship Meal last Wednesday evening was a lot of fun. A good crowd enjoyed the food and the hymn singa long afterwards. Some even slipped into some back room, I hear, to play a little "42." On Friday, the 20th through Sunday, the 22nd, Rev. Richard and Rebecca Prather will be attending the Bolivian Missionaries' Retreat in Arkansas. Anyone with an emergency should contact Bill Martin. When he gets back from the retreat Rev. Richard will be going down to the Lakeview Conference Center in Palestine for the 5th and 6th grade summer camp. Bob and Carla Fisher have been busy the last few weeks helping to renovate their daughter and son-in-law's new home in Wildewood. Their daughter is a chemistry professor at UT-Tyler. Jane Wheeler is very excited that she is about to have everything ready to move into her new home on the lake this week. Her brother, Bob Hitt, has been busy helping her get everything together. Also, Jane is scheduled for some surgery this week. We will be praying for her. Prayer has certainly helped Teena Blakeney's mother. We hear that she is doing extremely well after her recent surgery. Bill Martin will be having two surgical procedures this week. Also, John Riveire will be having surgery on both of his knees. We will pray for both of them and also for Joyce and Barbara. We also hear that Marguerita Barker has been ill. We hope she is feeling better soon. We were very saddened to hear of the death of Ernestine Castleberry on Sunday. Those in this congregation will always have a lot of great memories of this lovely woman. Her funeral was Tuesday in Athens. And too, at the same time, we were very sorry to hear that Argyll Hicks has gone home to be with the Lord early Sunday morning. He put up a good fight and kept coming to church as long as he could. We will miss him and keep Diana in our prayers. |
