1st Baptist Chandler
by Joanne Davis

At First Baptist we are a Bible believing and teaching church. It is our desire to see Jesus radically change lives. Do you struggle with a hurt? Jesus can heal that hurt. Are you fighting an addiction? With Christ you can overcome. There is a road to recovery and the map is found in the Bible. Do you need a change in your life? Is there something missing in your life that you just cannot seem to find? Come to Jesus; He is what you have been looking for your whole life. Jesus Christ is calling out to you and waiting for you to take that first step. That first step may well be to join our Celebrate Recovery classes.

We will be starting our Celebrate Recovery classes on Friday, August 3 from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. We will hold these classes in H.O.P.E. Fellowship Hall.

For those who have expressed an interest in joining Larry and Christie on their Mission trip in December, they will be holding a Mission trip meeting on Monday, July 30 at 7:30 pm at their home. See Larry or Christie for fur- ther information and directions.

Our Pre-teens are all getting excited about going to camp. It starts on August 4th for five days and will be held at Pineywoods. What a wonderful time for these youngsters to get out in God's world, enjoying nature, having fun with other children and hearing God's Word. Pray for each of them while they are gone. We are sending 19 campers and four counselors this year.

Our older youth are preparing for their Disciple Now weekend from August 10th through the 12th. You can help out with this great discipleship training by providing either a meal or perhaps you would like to provide them a place to stay (they don't need bedrooms, just floor space will do). Talk to Maggi Debenport to find out how you can help.

As we approach the fall season, our GAs, Pre-teen boys, Sunday school classes and other activities will again be in full swing. That means we will have an increased need for supplies for all of these groups. We keep a central supply closet, called our Resource Closet. Some of the needs we have to re-supply this closet include: crayons, markers, drawing and construction paper, poster boards, scissors, pens, pencils, erasers, stickers, stamps and stamp pads, glue sticks, colored pencils. How about you? Can you donate something to this closet? Let's keep the children well supplied for their activities.

Don't forget, the Body Life Journey workshop will be this Saturday, July 28 at 9am in the church. If you haven't attended one of the previous classes, there is still room for you in this class. Bro. Danny will be scheduling additional classes later on if this class is not convenient for you. Everyone should attend at least one of these classes, so sign up today. This class is intended to help you discover how God has designed and equipped you for ministry.

Have you considered being a Sunday School teacher? Are you currently a Sunday School teacher who would like some additional training and guidance to make your class more effective? Great news! There will be a Sunday School workshop at Poynor FBC on Saturday, August 4th, 9-12:15 entitled: "Supercharge your church through the Sunday School." This is a free clinic so please attend.

Our youth along with several other youth groups will be participating in a Community wide lock-in at West Lake Baptist Church. I understand there will be a great speaker addressing the youth and some awesome music as well. This event starts at 4pm on Friday, August 3rd and runs until 7am on Saturday, August 4th. Talk to Tommy Earl to arrange to attend and definitely mark your calendars.

On Wednesday evenings Brother Danny is preaching on "Facing Your Giants." It is an interesting series. Do you have "Giants" in your life that keep you from doing and being all that God would have you be? Come join us at 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday and learn how to "Slay your giants. "

If you long for a life that has significance and meaning and do not have a church home, please join us Sunday mornings at 9:45 for Sunday School and at 11:00 for our morning worship. If you have younger children, we also have a Children's Church (Castle) for those up through 3rd grade. Our Sunday evening services are held at 6:00. Nursery is provided for our Sunday services. Wednesday evening services begin at 6:30 and there are activities for grades K-high school and adults. Why not let us help you learn how to read your map (Bible) on the road to recovery and radical discipleship?
