Settle honored at SFA Outstanding Coaches luncheon

Thirteen Stephen F. Austin State University alumni were honored at the 29th annual Outstanding Coaches luncheon sponsored by the SFA Alumni Association. The luncheon was held on July 30, 2007, in the Crystal Ballroom of the Hilton Hotel in Fort Worth.

Recipients of the Ted Jefferies Football Award are Seven Armstrong `92 of Corrigan, Rocky Baker `92 of Henderson, John Settle `90 of Chandler and Lydell Wilson `92 of Richmond.

Armstrong's team at Corrigan-Camden was a Class 2A Division 2-state quarter finalist, and Baker's Price Carlisle High School team was a 1A Division 2 state quarter finalist.

Settle led his team from Brownsboro High School to a Class 3A Division 2-state quarter finalist title, and Wilson's team at Rosenberg Lamar Consolidated High School was a Class 4A Division 1-state semi-finalist.

The Alumni Association Volleyball Award was awarded to Rebecca Baugh Palmero `78 and `80 of Stratford whose team was a Class 5A regional semi-finalist.

The John O. Stephens Basketball Award was awarded to Brian Nichols `01 and `06 of Laneville whose team was a Class 1A Division 2-state finalist.

Lance Bernard `94 of Atlanta and Tracy Ranes `02 of Copperas Cove shared the Joe Richardson Track Award. Bernard led his boys' team to a 4th place finish at a Class 3A state meet. Ranes' boys' team was named Class 4A state champions.

The Alumni Association Softball Award was presented to Clint Zander `97 of Hewitt and Patrick Danesi `93 and `95 of Galveston. Zander led his Bosqueville High School

SFA Outstanding team to a Class 1A state championship, and Danesi's team at Galveston O'Connell High School won the Texas Association of Private and Parochial School (TAPPS) 4A state championship title.

Jennifer Grubb `00 of Murphy and Paul Grant `99 of Flint received the Alumni Association Soccer Award. Grubb led her girls' team at Plano West Senior High School to a Class 5A state championship title. Grant's girls' team at Tyler All Saints Episcopal won the TAPPS Division 2-state championship.

The Joe Gallagher Baseball Award was presented to Shawn Mixon `96 of Woodville. Mixon led his Jasper High School team to Class 3A state championship title.
