Area golf news: With just a few meets left on the Ark-La-Tex Junior Golf tour Trey Volentine continues to dominate the competition. Volentine won the first six straight meets he competed in this summer before finishing one shot behind on July 16 at Woodhollow. Jordan Bates of Quitman edged Volentine 73-74 to earn the crown for the boys 12-13 division. Following his second place finish Volentine rebounded well taking the Oakhurst Tournament with a score of 73. Michael Pope of Shreveport, LA was his closest competition with a score of 84. On July 23 Volentine shot a 72, two stokes better than Conner Barbe of Longview to win his eighth tournament of the season, his second of the month at the Alpine Country Club. His first Tournament at Alpine in July was on Monday, July 9 when he won by one stroke 77-78 over Bates. Jared Bragdon has also performed well on the tour finishing in the top 3 in three out of the last four meets in the 10-11 year old division. Bragdon's best finish came on July 23 at Alpine where he finished second with a score of 41. Wyatt Zur landed the first place spot with a score of 39. Both Bragdon and Volentine are from Brownsboro. In other golf new James Johnson nailed a hole-in-one at the Echo Creek Golf Course on Thursday, July 19. The 135 yard shot was made on the #7 hole with a nine iron and witnessed by Michael Johnson and Corky Leaton. |
