St. Boniface Catholic
by Sue Beams

On the Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time members of St. Boniface heard the parable of the man with a bumper crop. Jesus tells us we are deluding ourselves if we think that security exists in a surplus of goods. Jesus indicates we are being fools to think our material possessions will mean anything when the Lord `demands' our lives. The only wealth worth acquiring that matters is "to become rich in the matters of God." All our possessions and our very life are gifts from God.

Today's gospel cautions us against placing importance in the wrong places. Mother Teresa is perhaps the most generous person in our lifetime. Her generosity is to be emulated. Open your hearts, do not let greed lead to conflict within families. God loves each of us tenderly. Do not store your treasures. Store up instead, your spiritual treasure. We pray that Jesus will help us to move forward in our spiritual commitment, the commitment to acquire as many heavenly treasures as possible.

Following Mass, refreshments were served in the community hall. We welcomed visitors and church family to join the fellowship.

On display in the community center, from Tiberia, Israel, were the woodworkings of artisians from the Holy Land. Items purchased provided funds for the reconstructions of the Cathedral in Jerusalem. These breathtakingly beautiful items included rosarys, crucifixes, nativity scenes and wall plaques. Your participation and support is surely appreciated.

The Taco Lunch held last Sunday was a success. Thanks to all who contributed to this fundraising effort, especially to Dalia nd Virginia who planned this event. A Mexican dinner will be held August 19th. Please check your bulletin for more information.

There will be no Mass on Friday, August 10th as Fr. Jesse will be attending a Charismatic Conference in Little Rock. Our celebrant for weekend Masses will be Father Eduardo Nevares. He will be available to hear confessions 30 minutes prior to both Masses.

We are still in need of Faith Formation teachers for the upcoming CCD school year. Please contact Iris Mamo or Fr. Jesse to volunteer for this very important ministry at St. Boniface.

Congratulations and best wishes to those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. We ask our Heavenly Father to bring comfort to those who are sick and suffering. Remember in prayer the faithful departed. Continue to pray for the men and women in uniform who are bravely defending our freedom.
