Lake Palestine U.M.C.
by Barbara Cade

There was a lot of good music filling the church last Sunday at both services. David Owen, Sunny Farley and, at the first service, I thought even Rev. Richard Prather played some special numbers on their guitars. It sounded great. Please do that again sometime.

Speaking of Sunny Farley, word has it that she has received a $1,500 scholarship from the Methodist church for her seminary studies. Congratulations, Sunny.

We hear that Bernard and Linda Massey are still in Argentina and are trying to adjust to the cold down there. The temperatures there are running in the 30s and 40s.

Roy and Martha Different have been in Houston visiting friends and relatives for a few days.

Bob and June Hitt should be having a good time at their Colorado RV park by now. They left just in time to escape the really hot weather here.

Lynn Davis is finally putting the finishing touches on that cookbook. Some more recipes did come in on Sunday, so now, everything is ready for the printer. She expects the books to be ready to sell sometime in November. That will be perfect for Christmas shopping.

We are happy to have Crystal Simon back. She joined the church on Sunday and immediately got involved in a Bible study.

Kaethe Griffin had to take a little trip to the emergency room last Saturday after she pulled a tendon in her knee. She is at home recuperating.

Dorothy Botts has to see the dentist this week. She ate a pretzel and cracked a tooth.

The Thursday morning quilting group participated in the Quilt of Dreams project from St. Jude's Hospital this year. This is where quilts are submitted from all over the U.S. and given to comfort the children in St. Jude's Hospital. This year, more than 2,300 quilts were received. Over the four years the project has been in existence, more than 14,200 quilts went to the hospital. The ladies of the church hope to be involved in this next year too. They are now working on their Christmas quilt.

The youth want to remind everyone that this weekend, on Saturday, August 11th, they will be showing the movie Extreme Days at 6:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The movie is free, refreshments will be sold and everyone, young and old, is invited.

Also, the youth took a trip to Tyler where they ate at CiCi's Pizza and then went for a little putt-putting. Everyone had a great time.

Mary Ann and Dale Whisenhunt are busy with their Angel Food Ministries right now. Yesterday, the 8th, was the official order day, but she can probably still take orders for a couple more days if necessary.

We want to thank Alex Martin who helped run the big screen projector at the church on Sunday.

The Grace Awakening Bible study had their last meeting for about a month on Sunday. They will return in a few weeks with a new topic for the Bible study.

Debbie Morris' father was in the hospital last week. He is doing better now and is home.

Miranda Rowen attended a birthday party in Dallas with Matthew Blakeney. They both had a good time.

A very big congratulations to Rose Cade. On Monday, she celebrated her 97th birthday.
