Secrets in Chandler? To the Editor, I have attended every City Council meeting but maybe four for the past ten years, as I like to know what Chandler has in store for the folks that live here and pay taxes. The meeting that was held last Thursday night was on the borderline of being an illegal meeting, and one thing for sure, it was the most secretive that has ever been held since I have been in Chandler. Everything that is put on the agenda to be acted on affects every taxpayer in Chandler, and it should not be a secret at any time. This Mayor stopped doing this one time and now she is back at it again. That is why I have said many times, it is your duty to attend these council meetings. They are held the second Tuesday of every month. That is, unless they hold one that no one knows about, and then it for sure is illegal and I am sure there has been some of those held, if three members of the council discussed city affairs. Now to the subject matter of the last meeting held August 2, 2007. In the past year Chandler put a new sewer line in parts of the city and when the rains started in the spring a house was flooded with sewer and the bill to fix the house is over ninety thousand dollars, and the house is the home of Mr. and Mrs. Coy Ellis. The council was afraid to vote in open session to even try to find out if the city was at fault, and they let it die. And therefore the cost to repair the damage from the city sewer has to be paid by Mr. Ellis. This may happen again and it could be you or me next time. I suggest to the City of Chandler not to build any more homes here until they are sure this sewer does not back up again and put another family out of their home. Howard Taliaferro, Chandler |
