Elbert Ray Thorn

Services for Mr. Elbert Ray Thorn, 82, of Chandler, were held Saturday, August 4, 2007 at 10:00 a.m., at West Lake Baptist Church in Chandler, with Rev. Eric Peyton and Rev. Robert Wheat officiating.

Burial was in Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas on Monday, August 6, 2007 at 2:30 p.m., under direction of Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.

Mr. Thorn died July 31, 2007 in Chandler, Texas. He was born September 26, 1924 in Slaton, Texas to the late William and Mary Thorn.

He grew up in Lindale, raised his family in Dallas, and retired in Chandler. He was a member of West Lake Baptist Church and was an upholsterer for Daubitz Upholstery. He was a deacon at his church and coached several ball teams at the church. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Preceding him in death were brothers, Chester, William, and Leo Thorn; sisters, Wanza, Healon, Jimmie, and Ruby.

Survivors are his wife, Mary Ruth Thorn of Chandler; sons, Tommy Thorn of Euless, Texas., Fil Thorn of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Donna Colin of Arlington, Texas; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Family members served as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to West Lake Baptist Church, 1439 FM 315 South, Chandler, TX 75758.
