Lake Palestine U.M.C. Last week, this writer had just returned from a trip to Iowa and then immediately reported back to work. I felt good that I had written this column and sent it out to the paper, but as it turns out, the column inadvertently went into the Out box and was never sent until Wednesday. I will try not to make that mistake again. We were glad to hear that Kaethe Griffin's pulled tendon injury is healing and she drove herself to church last Sunday, and then again this past Sunday. Remember, I'm writing for two weeks in a row now. Dorothy Botts had to wait on her dentist appointment, again. We hope she can start feeling better. A large crowd made it to the Wednesday night fellowship meal on the 8th. That's even when a lot of people were still out of town. We were sorry to hear that Diana Hicks' sister had a stroke last week. Diana had to go to Ft. Worth to check on her. Her sister is now doing much better. Diana has also been cleared by her doctor to go back to work after her surgery. Rev. Richard and Rebecca Prather took a quick trip to Houston last week. Rebecca is getting ready to resume her teaching duties at Athens High School, so she has to get as much in as possible in these last days of vacation. Bob Fisher preached at both services on Sunday, the 12th. We hear he did a great job. We were happy to hear that John Riviere made it home from the hospital. His knees are doing a lot better now. He was even spotted at Wal-Mart zipping through the aisles in one of those motorized carts. Teresa Stark has been in the hospital with stomach problems but is home recuperating right now. They are still trying to figure out what is wrong. We were sorry to hear that Dale and Mary Ann Whisenhunt's daughter in Ft. Worth is not feeling well. The church is planning on giving her a special fundraising dinner to raise money for her doctor's and living expenses. Dyanna Dawn visited the church this past Sunday afternoon. She is making preparations for her country and gospel concert which she will give on a stage down by the lake. Her concert will be on Saturday, September 15th at 6:30 p.m. More details will be coming later. It was great to see Rich and Donna Franko back in church again this Sunday. They have just come in from Wisconsin, and by the end of the week they will be heading up to Branson, Missouri. We also hear that Bernard and Linda Massey were in town briefly returning from South America. They have now moved on again in the direction of the East Coast. It was also good to see Jeff Davis in church. He has to spend much of his time driving his truck all over the United States. As a matter of fact, he said he was only about a mile away from the bridge that collapsed in Minnesota. That's a reminder that we need to pray for everyone in their daily lives. Lynn Davis has announced that she is now taking pre-orders for the church cookbook which should be out in November. Joyce Martin was really pleased with the beautiful new t-shirt quilt which she put together and then had quilted. The Fishers are still working on a house with their daughter and her husband in Wildewood. It looks like it's going to be very attractive. The United Methodist Women will be meeting again soon and Angela Martin got some of them together at the church on Sunday. It doesn't seem possible, but school is starting next week. Our prayers are with all the parents, teachers, students and school personnel as they begin this very exciting time of year. |
