Brownsboro F.U.M.C.
by Ernest Elliot

An illiterate salesperson had been sent on a selling assignment. His letter to the boss said:

"Dear Boss: I seen this outfit which they ain't never bought a dime a dimes worth of nithin from us - I sole them a coupul hundred thousand dollars worth of goods. I'm not in Chkaigo."

Several days later a second letter arrived addressed "The Boss." "I cum hear and sole the half milyon."

The boss posted the letter for all to read, and added, "We been spending to much hear trying to spel insted of trying to sel. I want everyon shud read this letter from Gooch who is on the rode doin a great job. We shud go out and do like he is duin."

As pastor, let me say this: "People are movin into our sitee and living all around us and we ain't gettin' em invited and visited. Least wise not fast enuf. They don't go to church and Bibul Skool. Les us do lke Gooch done and jus do our level bess with what we have and work for Christ and his church. Lets stop trying to spell and korect other peoples spelling and start seling."

Use what God has given you to do what you know you should do. Being religious is not a work apart by itself but a spirit of righteousness flowing into all the enjoyment and intercourse of the world. Not merely the preacher and the saint on his or her knees may do the work of religion but the mechanic who smites the hammer and drives the wheels, the artist who seeks to realize their pure idea of the beautiful, the mother in the gentle offices of the home, the statesman in the forlorn hope of liberty and justice, and the philosopher whose thoughts treat reverently among the splendid mysteries of the universe.

What I am trying to get across is demonstrated by the story of a blind man that was discovered sitting at the corner of a city street with a lantern beside him. When he was asked why the lantern was there since light and darkness were the same to him (a blind man), he said: "I have it so that no one may stumble over me." What a message for Christians who have the Light! Let others see the light shining.

See you in church Sunday!
