Chandler F.U.M.C. Sermon: (Sept. 2nd) "Who's the Boss? Scripture: John 12:23-28 "Yet faith comes from listening to this Good News. The Good News about Christ." -Romans 10:17 School is starting and our children are returning to classes and homework and exams. And we as adults are gearing up to continue our growth in our Christian faith. Have you reviewed all the classes in Bible study, prayer, and personal and family growth that are being offered this year? Hopefully you have decided on a class that will meet your needs and bring a sense of joy and satisfaction to your life. Learning is essential to our progress as Christians and what better way than in a class with your fellow worshipers. It is said that "The man who thinks, reads, studies, and meditates has intelligence cut in his features, stamped on his brow, gleaming in his eyes, and sooner or later the face tells the status or the condition of the soul, a reflection of the divinity within the man." A wonderful message was delivered by Carlyn "Cee Cee" Gordon during the Sunday service given by the United Methodist Women members. The Methodist Women also recognized male church leaders during the service, "who have contributed their efforts in helping our church be a better place to come and worship." Rod Starnes and Robert Robinson were recognized for their skills in remodeling the kitchen and coffee area, for Dan Saxon the "quarters man" for his cheerful greeting each Sunday, for Allen Pollard who works every Sunday maintaining the audio and video functions, and to Bill Pollard for a lifetime of contributions in all aspects of the church. Thank you gentlemen, for all your Christian love, given on behalf of our church. Saturday, September 8th at 7 p.m., the new CrossFire Praise Team is going to host a mini revival and concert. An old fashion "ice cream social" will follow in Fellowship Hall. Those that would like to bring their favorite ice cream for others to share, please call the church office. Blue Bell will pass the criteria for "homemade." Remember our new church services will start Sunday, September 9th. At 8:30 a.m. a casual, contemporary service will be offered. At 9:30 a.m. refreshments in Fellowship Hall will be available, with Sunday school at 9:45 a.m., then at 10:30 a.m. the CrossFire Praise and worship service will be offered in Heritage Hall focusing on young adults and families with 11:00 a.m. being the tra- ditional service. The Seekers class welcomed back their teacher Nancy Berthoff. Nancy has been on her annual trek to the South African Provinces, where she has worked for several years in establishing libraries in the rural regions. This year Nancy accompanied several young people from the region that she has been working with since 2001, to the International Federation of Libraries Association. The group is currently a part of the Library Leadership Youth Network Committee which uses donations from various organizations to support their projects. This year Nancy worked with the "Dancing Pencils," a writing club initiated by an African press. The project assists children and adults to create books in the indigenous languages of South Africa. Nancy has brought several of the books back to be on display in the Chandler Library. So come and visit and see some of the pictures she has taken over the years. Wait a few days however, since her luggage may still be traveling. Happy Anniversary to: Charles and Sara Hall, David and Kay Kidd, and S.A. and Edith Billie Pollard. Happy Birthday to: Gregg Magee, Trish Reeves, Richard Rabe, Zel Snow, Fred Stauber, Loura Griffin, Jack Bass, Bing Ball, Jody Callaway, Dianne Johnston, Joel Reeves, Zack Shaffer, Elizabeth Pruitt, and Jared Jordan. |
