DOG FEST:
A fun morning for you and your dog!
by Sydney Busch

The third annual Dog Fest, coming up on Saturday, September 15, from 9-12:30 at the Mabank Pavillion, will have lots of games and contests for you and your dog. Admission is free -- your dog should be on a leash and up-to-date on its shots.

Friends of the Animals Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic and the Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake are excited to invite all area dogs and their well-behaved owners to come have a fun morning.

There will be contests such as best dressed dog, smallest dog, largest dog, looks most like owner, and more. Prizes as well as ribbons for winners will be awarded.

Great raffle items will be featured, appealing to dogs and owners alike, including an autographed hat from NASCAR's Greg Biffle.

There will be many vendors with the usual and the unusual. Crack dog photographer Terri Hudson will be available to take a picture of you and your dog.

Microchipping will be done as well. A tiny chip is painlessly inserted into your dog's scruff and if he is ever lost and ends up at a shelter, a quick scan returns him home! The cost is $20 and includes permanent national registration.

Professional dog trainer Joan Guertin will be in attendance to give obedience demonstrations and to answer behavior questions.

Friends of the Animals is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity doing spay/neuter surgeries every Tuesday by appointment only. In its 4 years of being open, the clinic has performed over 11,600 surgeries, saving and preventing literally millions of little lives.

The Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity offering refuge and a second chance for thousands of cats and dogs. Consider adopting your next pet from a shelter.
