Union Hill Baptist
by Mickey Bigbie

Hope you are keeping up with Brother Bill's series on "The Circuit Rider." They are wonderful stories about the early circuit riders as well as the modern day ones. On my way to church, I heard on the radio a song which reminded me so much of the Reverend J.R.V. "Bud" Hamilton that Brother Bill so lovingly talks about in this series. "Pa," as he was called by Brother Bill as a young boy, was, in Brother Bill's words, "a stubborn old mountain man who only feared God." The song was "The Reverend Mr. Black." It's an old song from the `60s but has been revived by Dan Duncan. It's being told by Reverend Black's son while, it's the grandson telling of his grandfather's experiences in Brother Bill's stories but the parallel was there about a strong man devoted to his work for the Lord and about two young men doing their best to fill some mighty big shoes. I could just see him as I listened to the song. If you get the chance, you listen to it too.

The artist, Dan Duncan will be in attendance at The 51st Annual Country Gospel Music Award Show to be held in Canton on October 12th and 13th. Sorry I don't have more information about it, but sounds like it would be well worth looking into.

Sunday was "Promotion Sunday " for the youngsters at Union Hill. We are blessed with wonderful, devoted teachers for our little ones. There were smiles galore as the children proudly walked down the aisle to accept their certificates. There's nothing better than to see the delight in a youngster's eyes as they explore and learn from the most wonderful book of all times, the Bible.

Our Discipleship Training classes will begin on Sunday, September 9th at 5:00 p.m. This is for everyone seven years through adults. Come grow in your relationship with the Lord. If you want more information, you may call the church at 903- 852-5043.

Ladies, there is still time to make plans to attend the Women's Renewal Conference in Lufkin on September 14th and 15th. Registration is $15 per person. See Diana Morris if you are interested.

It's time! It's time! The "Have Mercy Bike Fest" is nearly here. A very exciting day is ahead for you. There will be bike games, bike show, bike judging, blessing of the bikes and much more. This will be a fun day for all. You do not have to be a biker to attend. The excitement begins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8th at Union Hill Baptist, two miles east of Brownsboro on FM 3204. The worship service will begin about 1:00 p.m. with the praise team from Dayton and message from Evangelist Calvin "Pop" Tucker. There will be food concessions available (hotdogs and hamburgers). If you've been to one of these before, you know how much fun it is. If you have not, come see for yourself.

During Sunday School last Sunday, class member and substitute teacher, Nita Sargent told us about attending the "Women of Faith" conference. She said there was a marvelous song performed by Nicole Nordeman, called "I Want to Leave a Legacy." Isn't that just the most awesome, self-examination to leve you with this week! If you were called away today, what kind of spiritual legacy would you leave? You talk about one tenacious "food for thought"!
