UT Tyler's Patriot Idol invites area high school students

The University of Texas at Tyler is seeking area high school students to participate in the 2nd Annual Patriot Idol contest for a chance to become the next "Rising Patriot Idol."

The singing contest is part of the Oct. 4 Homecoming activities and is sponsored by the UT Tyler Alumni Association, UT Tyler campus activities board and Fox 51.

Beginning Saturday, Sept. 1, high school students may audition online by posting videos of themselves at www.fox51.com

The top 12 finalists will be posted on UT Tyler's Alumni Association Web site, www.pastpatriots.com, on Oct. 1. Viewers will vote on their favorite performance. "The top 12 finalists will be featured at UT Tyler 's Herrington Patriot Center on Oct. 4, and the top three will be announced and compete for the title of UT Tyler's Rising Patriot Idol.

So if it's Elvis or Avril, this is your chance to be seen as UT Tyler's 1st Rising Patriot Idol," said Bobbye Rucker, UT Tyler alumni affairs director.

Specific questions can be directed to area high school choir directors or to Rucker, bobbyerucker@uttyler.edu or 903.566.7318.
