Signs of promise during JV Bears opening loss

Freshman Ryan Owens took charge of the Junior Varsity Bears offense last Thursday night in Brownsboro and completed 55% of his passes in his first high school game.

Owens, new to BISD from Cayuga, completed 11-20 passes for 65 yards in the Bears' 19-0 loss to Jacksonville.

Overall the Bears gained just 68 total yards of offense against a tough Indians defense and four first downs.

Jacksonville's first score came on a six yard touchdown run with 6:29 remaining in the second quarter. Brownsboro trailed 7-0 at the half.

The Indians took control of the game with another rushing touchdown late in the third quarter.

Owens' longest completion of the night was to Shade Bruffet for 15 yards. Bruffet led the team in receiving with four catches for 29 yards.

Garrett Bragg recovered a fumble on defense for the Bears.

The Bears will host the Mt. Vernon Tigers tonight in Brownsboro. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30pm.
