Lake Palestine U.M.C.
by Barbara Cade

There is a flurry of activity this week at the church as everyone is making those last minute preparations for the Dyanna Dawnn concert this Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

The Methodist Men used some time after their monthly Saturday breakfast to assemble a deer stand which will hold the signs about the concert. They are also busy with mowing and sprucing up the area around the lake. Crystal Simon said she would come in later in the week to do the last minute mowing to make everything perfect for those lawn chairs.

Jeff Davis' boss has donated a forty-foot trailer to make the stage which will be located down on the shore of the lake (weather permitting). The ladies are going to decorate it and provide a dressing room for Dyanna. She says her performance is high energy and she makes several costume changes.

Dyanna also gave the congregation a concert preview at both Sunday services. She sang some great country gospel songs which everyone enjoyed.

The Frankos have made it back from their travels just in time to help out with the performance. Rick is going to help with sound and all the electrical connections while Donna has volunteered to help with the food.

We hear that Bernard and Linda Massey should be back from North Carolina by this weekend. We hope they have a safe trip back.

Lillian Stegall is also reported to be returning to the area.

The church received a letter from the Hitts who said they would soon be leaving their RV park in Colorado and traveling to the Dakotas where June's family is located.

Rev. Richard Prather traveled to Dallas this week for the surgery of Joy Willadsen. Everyone was very happy to hear that she came through the procedure very well. We pray for a speedy recovery.

Dorothy Botts presented a beautiful quilt to Mary Chudleigh this last Sunday. We think it was one of the prettiest quilts Dorothy has ever done.

Everett Kuykendall is slowly improving following his hospital stay and pneumonia. We hope he gets to come home very soon.

On Tuesday night, Angela Martin started the new Girl Scout/Brownie troop which will be meeting at the church. She seems very excited about this new venture.

Also, Monday was the kickoff for the new GED program at the church. Joyce Martin welcomed about fourteen students and several teachers to the beginning of this great program.

The quilting group is working hard on their Christmas quilt. From the looks of it, it's going to be gorgeous.

Several attended the regular second Wednesday fellowship meal. Good food is always available there.

Kaethe Griffin had a procedure on her foot done this week.

Prayers are needed for Debbie Miller's grandmother. She has been sick for awhile and Debbie has been taking care of her. We do pray that all goes well for that family.

Brandy Blakeney took a trip to Austin for her work on Monday.

The Grace Awakening Bible study group began meeting again for the fall last Sunday.

We want to thank Carla Fisher, Jan Decker and Sunny Farley for their piano/flute/ violin special on Sunday.

Word has it that Matthew Price (Cash) has joined a soccer team and is playing up at the park on Saturdays. He's a very good player, so the other teams had better watch out.

Coming up, on September 23rd, there will be a 6:00 p.m. presentation by a missionary which should be very interesting and informative.
