JV Bears defeat Tigers 22-6
The Tigers began the game with good field position starting on their own 40 yardline. Eight plays later they used a little trickery, a "hook and lateral " type of pass play, to go ahead 6-0 after the failed twopoint conversion attempt. Trailing 6-0 the Bears wasted no time scoring on their first possession in the second quarter. Freshman quarterback Ryan Owens found a wide open Jon Jon Thompson out of the back field for what looked to be a short gain. Thompson, however, had other ideas. Jon Jon raced 82 yards down the Tiger sideline to score the JV Bears first touchdown of the season. Owens then connected with Austin Adair on the two-point conversion to give the Bears a 8-6 lead. The Bears scored once more in the first half as with :29 left in the half Thompson dashed 23 yards for a rushing touchdown. With good defensive play the Bears kept their lead the rest of the game not allowing the Tigers to reach paydirt again. Brownsboro's defense allowed 95 total yards of offense to the Tigers, 71 coming on the first drive of the game. Mount Vernon rushed for 37 total yards while passing for 58 yards on four completions. The Bears held the Tigers to just 24 total yards of offense for the final three quarters. Leading the Bears offensive attack against Mount Vernon was Thompson. He totaled 138 yards of offense against the Tigers, 41 rushing and 97 receiving. Thompson led the Bears in both categories in the win. Owens had another nice game from the quarterback position passing for 148 yards on 8 of 14 pass attempts. He threw for 2 touchdowns while connecting with six different receivers in the game. His second touchdown of the game came in the third quarter while connecting with Austin Adair on a three yard strike. Overall the Bears totaled 251 yards of offense in the game with 103 coming on the ground and 148 in the air. Brownsboro averaged 7.4 yards per play. Also having a good game for the Bears from the backfield was OT Moore. Moore rushed for 27 yards on just three attempts. Garret Bragg, Michael House, JR Webster and Michael Berry each had at least one carry in the win. House forced a Tiger fumble that was recovered by a Tiger offensive lineman in the second quarter. Brownsboro (1-1) will travel to Westwood tonight, Thursday, to take on the Panthers. The game will follow the Freshman game at 5pm. |
