L.D. "Joe" Stokes

Graveside services for L.D. "Joe" Stokes, 81, Chandler, were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Concord Cemetery in Henderson County, with the Rev. Bud Peters officiating under direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors, Tyler.

Mr. Stokes died Sept. 23, 2007, in a Tyler hospital.

He was born Dec. 31, 1925 in Garden Valley to Lee Roy and Izona Pendergrass Stokes. He was a longtime resident of Tyler before moving to Chandler in 1995. He was a butcher at Lovins Food Store and Phillips Food Store and was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma E. Stokes; son, Larry D. Stokes; brother, Dewey Stokes; sister, Dorothy Watson, and granddaughter, Paula Simpson.

Survivors include son, Ernie R. Stokes, Chandler; two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
