Betty Brown Awarded `2007 Representative of the Year'

Representative Betty Brown has been given the `2007 Representative of the Year' award by TORCH (Texas Organization of Residential Care Homes).

The organization is an advocate for the rights of all assisted living and residential care residents in Texas, representing thousands of elderly and aging Texans.

"Representative Betty Brown came to the aid of aging Texans that needed her help," said TORCH Executive Director Kathy Schoeneberg. "She filed an amendment that kept residential care homes in her district, and throughout the state, open. Some were trying to close their doors, but she gave the elderly and disabled a voice."

"I am honored that I have been given opportunity to go to Austin and stand up for my district and those that need help," said Representative Brown. "I will continue to pass legislation that is good for Texas and Texas families. "

Representative Brown also voted for a bill to license homes in order to keep track of the residents and make sure the health care providers were in compliance.

"In Texas, we have veterans that are being abused and not properly taken care of," said Schoeneberg. "Betty Brown will make sure we take care of the Greatest Generation."
