Lake Palestine U.M.C.
by Barbara Cade

We had a very exciting and interesting day at church this past Sunday. We officially went to our new schedule which includes an 8:30 praise service, a 9:30 blended service and an 11:00 a.m. traditional service. There were also Sunday school classes going on at all hours. Of course, in between times, everyone was able to enjoy lots of fellowship and refreshments. This schedule will probably stay in effect until the new education wing is finished.

We were sorry to hear of the passing of Debbie Morris and Vicki Patton's father. He was a lively and interesting man and will be missed.

Debbie Miller also lost her grandmother. Our prayers are with her and her family.

We are also praying for Mary Chudleigh as she has entered the Chandler Nursing Home. This will be an adjustment, but we hope she will use it to get better.

We are happy to hear that Everett Kuykendall has finally returned home. He still has a lot of healing to do, but we know home is the best place to do that.

Lillian Stegall is gone on a trip to Mississippi and then up to the Northeast to view the fall foliage.

The Browns are having a lot of fun on a trip to Greece and other points in Europe. We want to hear all about it when they get back.

Bernard Massey continues to improve following his accident with the tree, but his leg still needs lots of therapy.

Also, Herb Botts had a little motorcycle accident last Monday night when he was coming home from helping at the GED classes. It seems a dog ran out in front of his motorcycle causing him to run off the road. He broke his collar bone in five places and he has a broken rib, too. He said it only hurts when he moves.

Crystal Simon's grandmother continues to improve following her surgery.

Mary Ann Whisenhunt's surgery is over now. She is moving slowly, but continues to improve. She and Dale will be taking Angel Food orders up through 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday the 10th.

We want to thank Bob Fisher for all the work he has put into the sound system at the church. It's a lot of work to keep up with.

The youth are planning another movie night for October 20th. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the movie, "Evan Almighty," will begin at 7:00 p.m. The show is free, but refreshments will be sold.

Lynn Davis has announced that the cookbooks are on schedule. They should be here by November 12th.

The United Methodist Women will be taking charge of the October 14th, 11:00 a.m. service. They hope everyone will turn out to support them.

Carla Fisher is busy coordinating rehearsals for the Christmas cantata, "Once Upon a Miracle." Practice for it will begin on October 17th starting at 7:00 p.m. If you love to sing Christmas music, come on out and join the choir.

The United Methodist Men elected new officers for the year. The president is Charlie Varnell. He happened to miss the meeting where he was elected. Vice president is Danny Mathus and the secretary/ treasurer is Vernon Jackson.

Speaking of the Methodist Men, they are very busy this week getting ready for the big garage sale this Saturday. Anyone who has any items to donate should call the church.

If you're really into longrange planning, Rev. Prather has booked a room at Traditions Restaurant in Tyler for 6:30 p.m. on December 12th. It will be a church-wide Christmas dinner and should prove to be a very fun evening.

We want to wish Don and Lana Kiser, Vern and Thetis Jackson, and Danny and Bobby Mathus a happy anniversary.

Those celebrating birthdays so far this month are Jane Kuykendall, Leann Boggs, Marissa Lawrence, Amy Shuptrine, Holly Skrobinski, Barbara Riveire and Everett Kuykendall. Happy birthday everyone.
