Volentine party honors triple achievement
By Nathan Straus News Reporter

Tony and Mandy Volentine
Tony Volentine's friends and family are throwing a party, and everyone's invited. The cause for celebration is a trio of "landmarks" Volentine has reached this year. The party will begin at 1 pm on Saturday, October 13, and will continue till around 4 pm.

Lynetta Bragdon, Volentine's eldest daughter, said the party has been in the making for quite a while.

"We've been trying off and on all summer," Bragdon, also a third grade teacher at Brownsboro elementary, said. "The teachers and secretaries have been trying to get the party together."

The festivities are centered around three separate points of interest: Volentine's 70th birthday, Tony and Mandy Volentine's 50 year anniversary, and Tony Volentine's recent retirement.

"It's a pretty big year for him," Bragdon said.

Carolyn Denson, cafeteria manager at Brownsboro Elementary, said the party will not come as a surprise to Volentine.

"He's known since July we were doing this," Denson said.

Bragdon said the party will feature a healthy dose of pictures, and anyone with Volentine-related memora- bilia such as class or team photographs from Volentine's time as teacher, principal or coach is welcome to bring and display them.

Bragdon added that the party will be located at Leagueville Baptist Church on FM 317, where Volentine holds position as a Deacon.

Reminiscing isn't the only thing happening at the party. Bragdon said there will also be free finger foods and a reception.

"There will be former students and classmates there," Bragdon said. "We've even got classmates from his former school in Louisiana that told us they were coming. "

Denson said she had no idea how many would attend, but that a lot of people might be interested.

Bragdon said the church facility to be used for the party is large and would accommodate those in attendance.

"Come and go to the party," Bragdon added. "It's free and we want everybody to come and celebrate the big year the Volentines are having."

Denson said she believes the achievements are a big accomplishment for Volentine.

"I think it's good to recognize all the hard work he's put in. He's well deserving of it," Denson said.
